Baby John is set to release in theatres on December 25 & has created a lot of buzz before its arrival. Starring Varun Dhawan, Jackie Shroff, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film has generated excitement thanks to its star cast and director Atlee.
However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has required several changes before granting a U/A certificate.
CBFC Asks To Edit Violent Scenes, Dialogues And More From Baby John
The CBFC’s Examining Committee (EC) reviewed the film and asked for some edits. One major change was to the opening disclaimer, which needed to include a line stating that the title Baby John is not related to any political figure.
A voiceover and text were also added to clarify that the child actors followed the appropriate guidelines. Additionally, a consent letter from the filmmakers was submitted.
The CBFC also raised issues with some dialogue. The name “Phule,” referring to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, was muted, and the name “Lal Bahadur Shastri” was replaced with another term, though it is unspecified.
Visual changes were also requested. A scene with a character kicking a kalash (pot) was altered. The visuals of characters being set on fire were reduced by 50%. Other scenes, including one with a cigarette being tapped on a character’s face and a close-up of a gunshot, were also adjusted.
A key concern from the CBFC was a reference to rape statistics made by a character in the film. The CBFC asked the filmmakers to provide an Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) certificate and submit verified sources for the statistical data before the film could be approved.
Varun Dhawan Starrer Granted U/A 16+ Certificate Ahead Of Release
After these changes were made, Baby John received clearance from the CBFC on December 16. The final runtime of the film is 164 minutes and 1 second, or about 2 hours and 44 minutes.
As the release date approaches, many are curious to see how these changes will affect the film’s reception.
Talking about the film, it is an action thriller directed by Kalees, adapted by the Tamil film Theri (2016) by Atlee.
The story follows DCP Satya Verma, who kills a politician’s son for committing a serious crime. In revenge, the politician, Babbar Sher, destroys Satya’s family, leaving his daughter Kushi as the only survivor. To protect her, Satya fakes his death and lives under the alias Baby John in Kerala. However, when Babbar Sher discovers that Satya is alive, he threatens their peace, and Satya must seek revenge and protect Kushi.
