Kartik Aaryan is gearing up for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and netizens can’t help but compare it to the original film starring Akshay Kumar. But Kartik has shared that these comparisons often feel “weird” to him, especially considering how the franchise has evolved over the years.
Kartik Aaryan Explains The Difference Between OG Bhool Bhulaiyaa & Next Two Instalments
Reflecting on the OG film, he shared that Bhool Bhulaiyaa still stands out to him because it was a psychological thriller at its core, unlike the horror-comedy vibe of the sequels.
Looking back, Kartik recalled watching the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa countless times on TV. He was captivated by the eerie atmosphere and Vidya Balan’s haunting performance as Manjulika.
Kartik explained how the intense mood and unique storytelling left a lasting impression on him. “I have watched the film a lot of times on TV. It has a good repeat value. Vidya ma’am really scared everyone with her performance. It was actually very scary to watch, though it belongs to a psychological thriller. Its genre itself was different,” Kartik told Bollywood Hungama.
When the sequel, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, came around, the franchise took a lighter turn, leaning into horror-comedy. Kartik explained, “Later, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was changed into horror and comedy, and the same is repeated for the third part.”
He mentioned the characters from the first film, particularly Akshay Kumar’s role and Rajpal Yadav’s Chota Pandit. He added, “I remember Akshay Kumar sir’s performance, and Rajpal Yadav sir’s character Chota Pandit; for me, it’s a wholesome film. I have always enjoyed watching it again and again.”
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 On Comparisons With Akshay’s Film & His Desire To Share Screen With Akki
As the face of Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s newer instalments, Kartik has faced constant comparisons with Akshay Kumar, a challenge he takes in stride. Kartik shared his deep respect for Akshay’s work and admitted that being compared to him feels odd.
“I have been his big fan. I think I can’t see myself competing with him. When people compare me with him, I only feel weird. It started with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Now, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is coming, so it comes automatically in people’s minds. But I still say the comparison is not possible,” he shared.
Kartik also remains hopeful for a future collaboration with Akshay. Kartik expressed his excitement at the idea, saying, “It would be ‘bahut acchi’ if we could share the screen in a comedy film.”
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is set to hit theatres on November 1, where it will face a box-office clash with Singham Again.
