Do Patti, the first production venture from Kriti Sanon and writer Kanika Dhillon, was met with anticipation for its fresh storyline and a strong cast. With Kriti Sanon in a double role, Kajol as a dedicated cop, and Shaheer Sheikh as the mysterious Dhruv, the film aimed to tackle sensitive themes around domestic violence within the framework of a thriller.
Yet, despite this promising foundation, Do Patti feels more like an elaborate attempt that lacks depth and cohesion, delivering an experience that, though intense in parts, ultimately falls short.

The film begins with a shocking incident that spirals into a tale of deception, broken trust, and suspense. Saumya (Kriti Sanon), visibly hurt, accuses her husband Dhruv (Shaheer Sheikh) of abuse and attempted harm. Dhruv, however, has a charming façade as a successful businessman, which clashes with the accusations. Adding to the tension is Saumya’s twin sister Shailee (Kriti Sanon, again), who adds rivalry and mystery.
The story shifts between flashbacks of the twins’ troubled childhood and the present-day turmoil, as Vidya Jyoti (Kajol), a no-nonsense cop, steps in to investigate. Through her role as investigator and later as a legal representative, Vidya becomes heavily invested, navigating the confusing terrain between the twins’ emotional conflict and the dark secrets in Dhruv’s character. Do Patti: Performances
The ensemble cast has its moments, but the execution leaves much to be desired. Kriti Sanon’s attempt at dual characters, the meek Saumya and the confident Shailee seem strained. They lack the subtlety required for such a complex relationship. Kajol, in her role as Vidya Jyoti, brings a stern presence but often feels disconnected, especially in scenes meant to heighten tension or drama.
Shaheer Sheikh, however, stands out, offering a performance as the charming yet dubious Dhruv. His portrayal of a man whose sweetness turns dark in an instant is both compelling and chilling, adding an element of realism that is otherwise lacking.
Do Patti: Analysis
While Do Patti delves into serious issues like domestic abuse, it does so with a superficial approach, often slipping into melodrama. The narrative attempts to present a sensitive portrayal of abuse and the inner struggles of its victims, but in doing so, it relies too heavily on clichés and predictable plot twists.
The film’s pacing feels disjointed, especially as it oscillates between flashbacks and the present, leaving little room for the characters to develop organically. The courtroom scenes, which could have added gravitas, feel rushed and lacking in depth, diminishing what could have been a powerful climax.

Do Patti was set up as a layered thriller with social relevance, but it struggles to rise above its predictable plot and overdone character portrayals.
While Shaheer Sheikh’s role adds some intrigue, the overall experience feels superficial, with a hurried courtroom finale that leaves viewers unsatisfied. It’s a story that misses its chance to be impactful, ending up as an underwhelming addition to the OTT thriller genre.
