Varun Dhawan is fully committed to his role in Border 2 and is putting in a lot of effort to get his character right, including intense training. The actor began shooting for the film on January 10 in Babina Cantonment, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. He’s playing an Army officer from Uttarakhand, and he’s making sure to bring as much authenticity as possible to the role.
The movie is being directed by Anurag Singh & is centred around the 1999 Kargil War. The project follows the success of Border (1997), which focused on the 1971 India-Pakistan War. To ensure the portrayal of the Indian Armed Forces feels real, the filmmakers reached out to the Indian Army for assistance.
An Army Officer Was Brought To Guide Varun Dhawan For His Role
Sources say that early on in production, the Army stepped in to help. An officer was assigned to oversee the design of the uniforms, ensuring they were accurate in terms of rank and time period.
Once the shoot began, another Army officer was brought in to guide Varun in playing a soldier. The officer has been working with Varun on his body language, the way he walks, and how he speaks, all to ensure his character reflects the discipline of real soldiers.
But it doesn’t stop there. The Army officer is also training the cast in artillery, making sure the battle scenes are as realistic as possible. Varun (along with producer Nidhi Dutta and director Anurag Singh) recently met the Station Commander, who has been key in keeping the shoot aligned with military standards.
In the film, Varun’s character uses the local dialect of Uttarakhand, which he’s been practising to make sure his role feels genuine. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh as an Air Force officer, Sunny Deol returning as an Army Major, and Ahan Shetty as a Navy Commander.
2nd Schedule Of Border 2 In Gwalior
After wrapping up the first schedule in Babina, the team will head to Gwalior for the next round of shooting. The action sequences, choreographed by Nick Powell (known for his work on The Bourne Identity and Kalki 2898 AD), will be filmed there. Major war scenes are planned for February and March when Sunny, Diljit, and Ahan will join Varun on set.
Border 2 is set to release on January 23, 2026. With its focus on the 1999 Kargil War, the film promises powerful performances and intense action. It is being produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and J.P. Dutta.
