The much-anticipated period drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has become a major talking point in the film industry ever since its teaser dropped on August 14. Attached to the prints of Stree 2, the promo has garnered massive attention, raising excitement for the film to new heights.
Initially, the makers had announced a release date of December 6, which would put Chhaava head-to-head with Pushpa 2, one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. This raised concerns of a clash between the two, with many hoping for a change in plans.
Now that Chhaava will not arrive on December 6. Pushpa 2 will be the only major release that day. However, Maddock Films, the production house behind the film, has not yet confirmed a new date for its release.
Chhaava Makers Now Eyeing Gandhi Jayanti Release?
Reports suggest that producer Dinesh Vijan and his team are considering several dates for the period drama. Chhaava could now be released either on December 20 or January 10.
But there’s also speculation that the makers are eyeing a more symbolic release around February 2025. A source close to the film revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “Chhaava is the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, whose father was the national hero Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. His birth anniversary, called Shivaji Jayanti, is celebrated on February 19 every year with a lot of pomp in Maharashtra. The makers felt that releasing Chhaava around this time could be apt.”
The source added, “If they lock this period to release Chhaava, they’ll need to figure out whether to release it on February 14 or February 21, since February 19 falls on a Wednesday.”
The Suggested Release Dates Bring Tough Competition For Vicky Kaushal Starrer
Industry experts have pointed out that the proposed release dates are already packed. Mufasa: The Lion King and Vanwaas are set for a December 20 release, while Baby John will follow on December 25.
Game Changer, a much-anticipated film starring Ram Charan, is set for January 10. While it may not pose a significant threat to Chhaava, Sky Force, another ambitious project from Maddock Films starring Akshay Kumar, is slated for release on January 24, just two weeks later. Additionally, February is crowded with releases like Deva, Sanki, Dhadak 2, and Raid 2, with the holy month of Ramadan expected to begin on February 28.
With all these films vying for space, the team behind Chhaava will have a tough time finding the perfect slot for their release. But with its powerful star cast, which includes Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, and Divya Dutta, and direction by Laxman Utekar (known for Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Mimi), the film is already one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. It has a strong chance of survival if clashes with another film at the box office.
