The new trailer or Emergency is finally out. Kangana Ranaut is ready to bring India’s political history to the big screen with this upcoming film. The actress not only stars in the movie but also directs it, portraying India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The film explores the controversial Emergency imposed in India from 1975 to 1977, providing a fresh look at this significant period.
Initially set for a September 6, 2024, release, the film faced delays due to clearance issues with the Central Board of Film Certification. The new release date is January 17, just before Republic Day. Kangana believes it is an ideal time to reflect on the country’s Constitution.
What’s In New Emergency Trailer?
The new trailer for Emergency opens with Anupam Kher playing Jayaprakash Narayan, who writes a letter to Indira Gandhi from prison, offering his thoughts on her power. Kangana, as Indira, delivers the line “Main hi cabinet hun” (I am the cabinet) when told she needs approval from the cabinet to impose the Emergency.
The trailer shows her making bold decisions with a key moment where Milind Soman’s Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw asks if she wants a war. Her intense silence in response suggests her readiness to go ahead with her plan. The trailer ends with Kangana’s Indira Gandhi declaring, “Indira is India.”
In a statement, Kangana said, “After a long journey filled with challenges, I’m glad that our film Emergency will finally hit the big screen on 17th January. This story isn’t just about a controversial leader; it delves into themes that remain profoundly relevant today, making the journey both difficult and significant.”
