Hansal Mehta and Mukesh Chhabra are set to produce the Hindi remake of the acclaimed Sri Lankan black comedy Tentigo.

Hansal Mehta and Mukesh Chhabra are joining forces to bring the critically acclaimed Sri Lankan black comedy Tentigo to Indian audiences. The Hindi adaptation will be produced under Mehta’s banner, True Story Films, along with producer Sahil Saigal

The project also marks Chhabra’s debut as a producer, adding another layer of excitement to the much-anticipated remake.

Hansal Mehta And Team To Produce Hindi Adaptation Of Tentigo

Originally titled Nelum Kuluna, Tentigo gained international attention after premiering at the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award. The film was produced by Hiranya Perera and Crawling Angel Films, the team behind Girls Will Be Girls, Once Again, and Nimtoh.

True Story Films has now partnered with Crawling Angel Films for the Hindi remake. Sanjay Gulati and Neeraj Pandey (known for their work in the indie film circuit) will also co-produce the project. Hiranya Perera has joined as an associate producer.

Three-time Filmfare winner Karan Vyas is adapting the film for Hindi audiences. Vyas (known for Scam 1992, Scam 2003, Scoop, and Saas Bahu aur Flamingo) is expected to bring a sharp and engaging take on black comedy while keeping its essence intact.

The official announcement was made at the Colombo premiere of Tentigo on March 12, 2025, with the entire creative team present.  The film was released in Sri Lankan cinemas on March 14, 2025, receiving widespread praise from critics and audiences alike. The buzz around the original has further raised expectations for the Hindi version.

Hansal On Choosing The Project Despite Being Against Remakes

Hansal Mehta explained why he was drawn to this project. He shared, “I’m not usually in favour of remakes, but this one had me genuinely excited. The moment I saw Tentigo, I couldn’t stop laughing. It was sharp, irreverent, and yet deeply emotional – the kind of story that stays with you.”

He added, “I believe this adaptation will resonate with audiences across India. We at True Story Films are thrilled to bring this incredibly funny film to a wider audience.”

Mukesh Chhabra (who has worked with Mehta since Shahid) spoke about his new role as a producer. “I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Hansal Mehta as a casting director on all his projects since Shahid. Working alongside him as a producer feels like a natural extension of everything we’ve built over the years. I’m excited about this new chapter in my career and can’t wait for audiences to experience this exciting film.”

Details about the director and cast remain under wraps, but the producers promise a talented lineup that will do justice to the film.
