IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack Director Anubhav Sinha To Work On An Action-Packed Superhero Film Next

Anubhav Sinha is set to dive into an action-packed superhero film, marking his return to the genre.

Anubhav Sinha is back in the spotlight following the digital release of his latest project, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. This gripping web series, which premiered on Netflix on August 29, 2024, explores the harrowing 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814.

The series features an impressive cast, including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, and Arvind Swamy, and offers a detailed look into the incident, touching on perspectives from India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has not been without controversy. The series has faced criticism for allegedly altering facts, specifically changing the hijackers’ names to Hindu names.

This move has sparked significant backlash on social media, with some accusing Sinha of obscuring the true identities of the hijackers and their links to extremist groups. Despite the controversy, the series has received widespread support from viewers who appreciate its in-depth exploration of a dark chapter in history.

Anubhav Sinha To Work On A Superhero Film Next

Now, Sinha is already looking ahead to his next big project. In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, the director revealed that he is diving into the world of superheroes once again.

“I am working on an interesting superhero. Action and music have been calling me for a while now,” Sinha shared, hinting at an action-packed venture that will likely be a departure from the serious themes of his recent work.

This isn’t Sinha’s first foray into the superhero genre. He previously directed Ra.One, a high-profile project starring Shah Rukh Khan. Although Ra.One was a box office disappointment, Sinha’s passion for the genre remains undeterred.

Here’s What The Filmmaker Said About Ra.One Failure

Reflecting on the film’s failure, Sinha candidly admitted in a 2023 interview with Connect FM Canada, “I think I failed Shah Rukh Khan. I did not make a good enough film, but it was such a great opportunity. I should have made a better film.”

Despite the setbacks with Ra.One, Sinha’s upcoming superhero project seems to be a fresh start. Details are still under wraps, but fans can expect the same meticulous attention to detail and innovative storytelling that Sinha is known for.
