Prabhas’ highly anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD has found itself in hot water over accusations of plagiarism by a concept artist. The film, starring a powerhouse cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, is set to hit theatres on June 27.
The controversy erupted after the release of the film’s trailer, which drew comparisons to Hollywood blockbusters like Dune and Mad Max: Fury Road. Viewers noted striking similarities between the post-apocalyptic world depicted in Kalki and the aesthetic of these well-known movies.
Hollywood Concept Artist Slams Kalki 2898 AD Makers For Copying His Work
Sung Choi, a concept illustrator and designer who has worked with industry giants such as Marvel Studios, Disney, and Warner Bros, took to Instagram to accuse Vyjayanthi Movies, the production company behind Kalki 2898 AD, of plagiarising his artwork.
Choi pointed out that a particular frame from the trailer closely resembled an illustration he had created a decade ago and showcased on his ArtStation website.
In his Instagram post, Choi shared a collage comparing his original artwork with the still from the trailer, captioning it, “Unauthorised use of the artwork is a bad practice. I sometimes even question doing art in this lawless environment.” The post quickly gained traction, with fans urging Choi to take legal action against the filmmakers.

One fan commented, “Please sue them, I’ve read on Google that they sued a VFX company for leaking the look of Prabhas (actor). If they can sue, you also do it.” Another wrote, “I hope you pursue legal action if possible. This is awful.” A third user added, “This is totally shame on them, the saddest thing is this is the intro shot of the production house.”
