Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan are two names that will forever be linked with unforgettable Bollywood moments. Their on-screen chemistry has lit up many films over the years, creating a lasting legacy. But according to Madhuri, their journey together almost took a different turn before they starred in the iconic Dil To Pagal Hai.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Madhuri recalled a conversation with Shah Rukh about wanting to break away from their intense roles in Anjaam and Koyla.

After playing characters in difficult, dramatic situations, Madhuri felt it was time to try something lighter. “I was just talking to Shah Rukh and said – We need to do a movie where we are like saaf sutra (clean), dress beautiful, look pretty and do romantic scenes together. What is this? We are always running,” she shared.
Madhuri reflected on her time shooting Koyla and how she and Shah Rukh were often caught in stressful, action-packed scenes.
She joked about their previous films, “In Anjaam, we’re either beating each other up all the time. And in this one, we’re running away in gande kapde (dirty clothes), we’re dirty and we’re in all kinds of bad situations.” This led her to suggest they do something more romantic and visually appealing.
Her wish came true when they teamed up for Dil To Pagal Hai, one of Bollywood’s most celebrated romantic films. The movie, directed by Yash Chopra, became an instant classic and remains one of the best-loved collaborations between the two stars. Fans have since cherished their portrayal of love and passion, with many considering it one of their most iconic on-screen pairings.
Over the years, Madhuri and Shah Rukh have worked together on six films: Anjaam (1994), Koyla (1997), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Gaja Gamini (2000), Devdas (2002), and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002). Despite not having appeared together recently, their fans continue to dream of their reunion on the big screen.

Madhuri is currently riding high with her role in Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, alongside Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan.
On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up to shoot for King. It will also feature his daughter Suhana Khan alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Munjya fame Abhay Verma.
