Bollywood’s summer lineup in 2024 was underwhelming with only a few films making it to theatres in April and May. Fans feared the same for 2025, but things are changing.
May is expected to be a busy month with new releases reportedly joining the schedule. Ajay Devgn starrer Raid 2 is already set for a May 1 release, and now two more films might hit cinemas that month.
Sitaare Zameen Par Targets May 30 Release
According to industry sources, Aamir Khan’s much-awaited film Sitaare Zameen Par is eyeing a May 30 release. The actor initially planned for a June premiere but later decided on an earlier date.
A trade source shared with Bollywood Hungama, “Aamir realised that May 30 works better. The IPL will wrap up by March 25, making it an ideal time for a big release.” Directed by Shubh Mangal Saavdhan filmmaker R S Prasanna, the film also stars Genelia Deshmukh.
Bhool Chuk Maaf Likely To Release On May 9
Meanwhile, Maddock Films is considering rescheduling its rom-com Bhool Chuk Maaf. The film, initially slated for April 10, may now arrive on May 9.
The shift comes due to an overcrowded April release calendar. Sunny Deol’s Jaat and Phule is set for April 10, while Salman Khan’s Sikandar drops on March 30. Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 is scheduled for April 18, and Emraan Hashmi’s Ground Zero was recently confirmed for April 25.
The trade source explained, “April is stacked with big releases. Shifting Bhool Chuk Maaf to May 9 gives it breathing space and a better chance at the box office.”
This move could also work in Rajkummar Rao’s favour. An industry expert noted, “This release window has been lucky for Rajkummar. Srikanth (2024) was released at the same time last year and performed better than expected.”
The film also features Wamiqa Gabbi & promises a fresh and humorous storyline. Its teaser was recently screened in cinemas alongside Maddock Films’ Chhaava.
