South actress Nayanthara is set to reveal more of her personal story than ever before in the upcoming documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale.
Premiering on Netflix on November 18, the film promises a closer look at her rise to stardom, her achievements, and the challenges she’s faced along the way.
Netflix Drops Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale Trailer
The documentary’s trailer offers a sneak peek into Nayanthara’s illustrious career. It begins with scenes from her iconic films, celebrating her status as the Lady Superstar.
The trailer also features interviews with fellow actors and directors like Upendra, Taapsee Pannu, Radhika Sarathkumar, and director Atlee, who share their admiration for her journey.
Taapsee Pannu, in particular, highlights Nayanthara’s role in challenging traditional expectations for female actors. “She proved wrong every rule written for a female actor,” Taapsee says.
In addition to her career, the documentary explores Nayanthara’s personal life, showing the more vulnerable moments she has faced. The film includes reflections from her mother, providing insight into the struggles behind the public persona.
A key emotional moment in the film is the portrayal of Nayanthara’s relationship with her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. Their wedding is featured with heartwarming footage and comments from their close friends, adding a personal touch to the documentary.
Directed by Amrith Krishnan, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale runs for 81 minutes and includes a voiceover from Nayanthara herself. In the film, she opens up about her decision to share her story. In one part of the trailer, filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon questions why she chose to participate in the documentary, given her private nature.
While reflecting on her past, the documentary also looks ahead to Nayanthara’s future projects.

She was last seen in Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food and has a number of exciting films coming up. These include The Test, co-starring Siddharth and Madhavan, Mannangatti Since 1960, Mookuthi Amman 2, and the much-anticipated sequel to Thani Oruvan. Nayanthara will also appear in the Malayalam film Dear Students alongside Nivin Pauly.
Coming back to the docu-film, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale offers fans an in-depth look at the woman behind the superstar, highlighting both her professional and personal life in a way that has never been seen before.
