Obsession: Kartik Aaryan Calls Curry Barker Horror Hit One Of The Best, Ananya Panday Says She Is Obsessed

Bollywood’s horror radar has found a new international favourite, and this one comes with serious genre heat. Curry Barker’s Obsession, the supernatural psychological horror film that arrived in Indian theatres on May 29 after its US release on May 15, has sparked chatter not just among horror fans but also within Bollywood’s young star circle.

Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday have now publicly praised the film, giving the Hollywood breakout a fresh celebrity push in India. For a film built around a twisted wish, dangerous attachment and emotional paranoia, Obsession appears to have landed exactly where horror titles dream of landing, inside pop culture conversation.

Their posts have added a Bollywood spotlight to a film that was already drawing attention for its modest making cost and big screen traction. The response is especially notable because horror recommendations from mainstream Hindi film stars often travel fast across younger social media audiences.

What Obsession Is About

Obsession is written, directed and edited by Curry Barker, who moved into feature filmmaking after building a following through horror shorts and online genre storytelling. The film stars Michael Johnston as Bear and Inde Navarrette as Nikki, with Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter also in the cast.

The story follows Bear, a lonely music store worker who is in love with his childhood friend Nikki. After buying a strange object called the One Wish Willow, he wishes that Nikki would love him more than anyone else in the world. The wish works, but the emotion turns unstable, suffocating and increasingly terrifying.

The film is a supernatural psychological horror backed by Capstone Pictures, Tea Shop Productions and Blumhouse Productions, with Focus Features handling distribution. Its premise plays with the classic danger of getting exactly what one asks for, but Barker frames it through modern loneliness, romantic fixation and fear of rejection.

Kartik Aaryan And Ananya Panday’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Kartik Aaryan’s recent run has kept him moving across genres. He led the sports biopic Chandu Champion in 2024 and returned to horror comedy with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 the same year. His confirmed upcoming slate includes Anurag Basu’s musical romance with Sreeleela in 2026 and Naagzilla, scheduled for 2027.

Ananya Panday’s recent screen choices have moved between streaming era urban stories and theatrical romances. She starred in Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri in 2025 and was recently seen in Chand Mera Dil, a 2026 romantic drama directed by Vivek Soni and co starring Lakshya. Her endorsement of Obsession adds an interesting genre note to her public film taste.
