For a film that built its legend on style, swagger and a crackling ensemble, Kaante has made an unlikely return to the headlines through a courtroom file, not a box office rerun. The 2002 action thriller is back in focus after the Bombay High Court accepted a settlement under which Pritish Nandy Communications is set to receive Rs 2.55 crore in a long-running dispute involving Sanjay Gupta’s White Feather Films.
The matter was disposed of after both sides agreed to settle through consent terms. The Bombay High Court accepted the settlement through an order dated April 21, 2026, which was uploaded on April 23. The case before the court was Commercial Appeal (Lodging) No. 9838 of 2026.
Bombay High Court Clears Rs 2.55 Crore Kaante Settlement
Under the terms submitted before the court, Pritish Nandy Communications will receive a lump sum net amount of Rs 2.55 crore within 60 days. That figure is lower than the earlier claim of Rs 3.52 crore along with applicable interest, but it marks a significant turn in a case that has been running for years.
The dispute traces back to a 2016 arbitration award tied to Kaante. Under that award, White Feather Films had been directed to pay Pritish Nandy Communications Rs 3.52 crore with interest. The production company later pursued enforcement through multiple legal steps, including property injunction proceedings initiated in 2020.
This latest agreement also comes with a firm condition. If the Rs 2.55 crore payment is not made within the 60-day window, the original litigation proceedings will continue. In effect, the settlement offers a route forward, but only if the timeline is honoured.
For an industry that often sees older titles return through remasters, sequels or streaming rediscovery, Kaante has resurfaced here because of unfinished business behind the scenes.
Why Kaante Still Holds Its Place In Bollywood Memory
Released in 2002, Kaante was co-written and directed by Sanjay Gupta, and it remains one of the filmmaker’s most recognised titles. The action thriller brought together Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Lucky Ali, Mahesh Manjrekar and Kumar Gaurav in a sharply styled crime drama that stood out for its scale and attitude.
The film was produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, The Film Club and White Feather Films, which makes the present case especially notable given how closely the banners are tied to the movie’s production history. Set in Los Angeles, Kaante followed six Indian men who join forces for a high-risk bank heist after repeated police harassment. The film performed well commercially in its time and grossed Rs 43 crore worldwide.
That is what gives this legal turn its odd afterlife value. A film remembered for its cool, its music and its ensemble bravado has found a fresh headline in 2026, this time with the drama playing out far from the big screen.
