Pushpa 2 Makers SLAMMED For ‘Exploitative’ Ticket Prices, Denied Controversial 60% Revenue Share By Single Screens In Hindi Markets

Pushpa 2 faces backlash over steep ticket prices and a controversial 60% revenue share demand from exhibitors.

Pushpa 2 – The Rule is set to hit cinemas on December 5, but it’s already creating a stir due to its sky-high ticket prices and a heated revenue-sharing dispute. The Allu Arjun starrer is expected to be a massive success. However, it has caused frustration as cinemas raise prices to blockbuster levels.

In Mumbai, Gaiety-Galaxy made headlines by increasing balcony tickets to Rs. 200, a first for the theatre. Meanwhile, at PVR Maison in BKC, ticket prices for Luxe screens went as high as Rs. 3000 before being brought down to Rs. 2200. These hikes have sparked anger from fans, who are questioning the fairness of these prices.

Pushpa 2 Faces Backlash Due To Insane Ticket Prices

As per a Bollywood Hungama report, Pushpa makers have faced backlash for its high ticket prices. Vishek Chauhan (the owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar) spoke out against the increases, saying that raising prices drastically was unfair.

He noted that a small increase of 15-20% is acceptable, but charging significantly more for tickets that were previously priced much lower, like those for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, feels exploitative. Chauhan argued that this kind of pricing could force audiences to only visit cinemas occasionally, calling it an unfair move against moviegoers.

Distributor Raj Bansal also voiced his concerns and pointed out that such high prices could turn people away, especially since the release is on a non-holiday Thursday. He believes the steep rates will act as a barrier for potential viewers.

On the other hand, some cinema owners have kept prices lower. Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who runs The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, explained that competition in the area kept him from significantly increasing ticket prices. Despite a slight hike, he added that none of his customers had complained, reflecting the huge excitement for the film.

Distributors Denied 60% Share By Single Screens

Along with ticket pricing issues, the film is facing challenges over revenue-sharing terms. Distributors asked for a 60% share of the revenue from single-screen cinemas, citing the high anticipation for the film. However, exhibitors in Hindi-speaking markets and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana have firmly rejected this proposal.

One exhibitor explained that while distributors tried to convince them, they felt the terms were unacceptable, pointing out that the standard share is around 50%, as seen with other recent blockbusters like Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

As talks continue, the studio has reportedly backed down from the 60% demand and is now seeking a share between 50-55%. If the film turns into a major hit, they may push for 55%, but otherwise, the share will likely remain lower.

The disagreements have also reached Tamil Nadu. Cinemas in Chennai, including Sri Sakthi Cinemas and S2 Cinemas, delayed opening their ticket sales due to the ongoing issue.

A source from Coimbatore mentioned that Broadway cinemas had also held off on selling tickets until December 4. Ticket bookings began at 10:00 am that day, and other theatres are expected to follow suit once an agreement is reached.
