The highly anticipated fourth instalment of the Race franchise is officially happening, and fans are buzzing with excitement. After Race 3 took a different turn, the upcoming Race 4 promises to bring back the original feel of the first two films, which starred Saif Ali Khan as the lead.
In a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Shiraz Ahmed, the writer behind all the Race films, shared some exciting updates about Race 4. “Race 4 will go on floors in January (2025),”
Race 4 Continues The Story From Race 1 & 2
Ahmed revealed. He further mentioned that the script is almost complete, and casting is already well underway. Saif Ali Khan and Sidharth Malhotra are already confirmed for major roles, and the rest of the cast will be announced soon by Tips Films in an official statement.
What’s really thrilling for fans is the direction this new instalment will take. Ahmed explained, “For Race 4, we have continued the story and characters from Race 1 and Race 2. We’ve gone back to the same world of the first two films.”
This return to the franchise’s roots will likely be a hit with longtime fans who loved the original high-octane twists and turns.
On What Went Wrong With Race 3
Race 3, despite being a box-office success, didn’t sit well with critics and fans of the franchise. The film starred Salman Khan, and many felt it departed too much from the core of what Race was all about. Therefore, it couldn’t make an impact like the first two instalments.
Ahmed acknowledged this and said, “In Race 3, we shifted a bit from the Race franchise in terms of characters. If you remove the title ‘Race’ from the film, you will enjoy it. People went to see Race, but they got something else.”
He also discussed why Race 3 had to change its tone. “With Salman Khan in the film, there are certain things you have to consider. He doesn’t play negative roles, and his fans don’t like to see him in that light. So, we had to work within those boundaries. But we still tried to deliver something that the audience would enjoy.”
Race 4 Director Still Not Finalised
While Race 4 is set to hit the ground running in early 2025, the director for the project has not yet been finalised. The first two films were directed by Abbas-Mustan, a duo known for their thriller expertise. Race 3 was directed by Remo D’Souza, who took the franchise in a new direction.
Produced by Tips Films, Race 4 is expected to be a major release. Saif Ali Khan is back in the lead and with a storyline that connects to the original Race universe, fans can look forward to more of the action-packed, suspense-filled drama that made the franchise popular.
