About The Film

83 is a biographical sports drama directed by Kabir Khan, telling the true story of the Indian cricket team’s victory at the 1983 World Cup. Ranveer Singh plays the role of Kapil Dev, the captain, while Deepika Padukone portrays his wife, Romi Devi. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Saqib Saleem.

The story follows India’s journey to the 1983 World Cup, where they were seen as underdogs. Against all odds, Kapil Dev’s team defeated the strong West Indies and won the World Cup, marking a historic moment for Indian cricket.

Released on December 24, 2021, 83 had a budget of ₹250-270 crore. It earned Rs 193.73 crore worldwide, with Rs 109.02 crore in India and Rs 63.94 crore overseas. Despite receiving positive reviews and strong performances, it was considered a box-office disappointment in India due to its high production costs.
