Salman Khan, Zoya And Farhan Akhtar’s Docu On Javed-Salim
The documentary, produced by the trio of Salman Khan, Zoya Akhtar, and Farhan Akhtar under their respective banners, aims to celebrate the legacy of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. These screenwriters not only shaped the narrative of Indian cinema but also achieved star status, a rarity for writers in the film industry. Their partnership, which spanned from 1971 to 1987, resulted in 24 films, of which 20 were both commercially and critically successful.
Salim-Javed’s contributions to Bollywood are monumental. They penned some of the biggest blockbusters of all time, including Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul, Don, and Kaala Patthar. Their work introduced several cultural phenomena, such as the “Angry Young Man” archetype, the masala film genre, the Dacoit Western genre, and films centred on the Bombay underworld.
Zoya Akhtar expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “Salim-Javed’s work is a significant part of Indian cinema’s history. Their stories and characters have left an indelible mark on the industry, and it’s an honour to bring their journey to the screen.” Farhan Akhtar echoed her sentiments, adding, “Their scripts were not just stories but reflections of society. The Documentary Will Be A Tribute To Salim Khan & Javed Akhtar
Salman Khan, whose production house is part of this collaboration, shared, “The legacy of Salim-Javed is unparalleled. They transformed the way stories were told and gave us characters that are still remembered today. This documentary is a tribute to their immense contribution to Indian cinema.”
The documentary promises to provide an in-depth look at the lives and careers of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, exploring their creative process, their landmark films, and their lasting influence on the industry. By revisiting their illustrious careers, the film aims to inspire a new generation of filmmakers and screenwriters.
Talking about Salman Khan, the actor is gearing up for his next film Sikandar with AR Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala. It is expected to release on Eid 2025. Farhan Akhtar, on the other hand, has his directorial projects like Don 3 and Jee Le Zaraa. However, he has currently shifted his focus to acting.
