Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya is known for creating some of Bollywood’s most memorable and family-friendly love stories. He has responded to a recent query on teaming up with Salman Khan again.
The two have worked together on hit films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. This time, their collaboration will bring a fresh take on Salman’s popular character, Prem. However, the new project is expected to have a more mature story, reflecting the changes in time.
Sooraj Barjatya To Reinvent ‘Prem’ For Salman Khan
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sooraj shared that he is currently working on a new script that fits Salman’s age. “It is on the cards,” Sooraj confirmed when asked about the next project.
However, he added that it will take time because the character of Prem needs to be adjusted to match Salman’s evolving persona. “I have to create a new Prem. It has to suit his age. You cannot expect him to do the same thing which we have been doing till now,” Sooraj said.
Sooraj explained that the new Prem will still carry the fun, mischief, and family values from their previous films. But this time, the character will be presented in a more mature light, and it’s taking longer to get it right. “It will be on a different matured level. That is an experiment which is taking a little more time,” he added.
Filmmaker Set To Make His OTT Debut
In addition to his collaboration with Salman, Sooraj is also stepping into the OTT world. He is debuting as a showrunner with Bada Naam Karenge, a new series on Sony LIV.
Directed by Palash Vasvani, the series tells a love story set in Ujjain and Ratlam. It stars Ritik Ghanshani and Ayesha Kaduskar as the leads and focuses on self-discovery, relationships, and family bonds. The show is set to release on February 7.
Speaking about his OTT debut, Sooraj shared his excitement when Sony asked him to bring the Hum Saath-Saath Hain audience to the digital space. “I was so honoured and so grateful about it. And they allowed us all the freedom,” he said.
Salman Khan Is Busy Shooting Sikandar
Meanwhile, Salman Khan is preparing for his upcoming film Sikandar, which is set to release on Eid 2025. The action-packed movie stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Prateik Babbar, making it a highly awaited release.
