A music rights dispute around The Vvaan has been resolved almost as quickly as it surfaced. After vocalist and composer Sargam Vaish alleged that his unreleased recording of Aigiri Nandini had been used in the film’s trailer without permission, the makers moved within a day to acquire the sync rights, easing what could have become a messy pre-release legal conflict.
Copyright Dispute Took A Sharp Turn
The controversy surfaced on September 20, when Vaish took to Instagram and alleged that a portion of his master recording had been used in the trailer without consent. In his video, he said, “I have been working on a project for three years, and one song from that has been used in the film Vvan’s trailer that was recently released, without my permission. The Vvan stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia and is directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, produced by Balaji Telefilms and TVF. They have used my song for 25 seconds without my permission.”
He went on to issue a clear warning, adding, “From 1 minute 8 seconds to 1 minute 33 seconds, the song’s name is Aigiri Nandini. They have used my master file, production, and vocals as it is. I have signed a deal with a big label, if that is affected, they will be responsible for this. Kindly remove the song from your trailer and the movie; otherwise, my legal team will take care of it.”
Makers Acquire Sync Rights
By the evening of September 21, the situation had changed significantly. Vaish later confirmed that representatives and lawyers from Balaji met him and completed the sync rights process. He said, “Balaji’s executives and lawyers have been cooperative. We met them today; they were kind and apologetic, even though they didn’t cause [the leak]. They are taking the sync rights for the track. I am grateful for the fact that we were able to resolve it so smoothly.”
Even with the immediate rights issue addressed, one key question remains unresolved. Vaish said, “The source of the leak is not known to us yet. We are trying to trace how this happened.” He had earlier also recalled, “This is the version I had created for Ram Gopal Varma’s film. I own the master rights. No one had approached me for an NOC or permission.” That unanswered question soon drew attention online, with the conversation shifting from the copyright claim itself to how an unreleased master recording had reached the film team in the first place.
Ricky Kej’s Question Put The Focus On The Leak
As the matter spread across social media, Grammy winner Ricky Kej publicly raised the point that many in the music and film space were already discussing. He wrote, “How did they get access to your master recording when you had not released it yet?(sic)” Vaish replied, “rickykej Sir, I’m a big fan of yours, so it genuinely means a lot that you noticed this. The song was already given to another big movie and was still unreleased. Somehow, it reached this movie through another circle and was used before the original project. That’s exactly what I’m trying to understand as well.”

Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, the film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 25, 2026. With the sync rights issue now addressed, the immediate focus returns to the film’s theatrical rollout, even as the search for the source of the leaked recording continues.
