Special Feature: Big Action Film Bombing At Box Office Despite Festival Release Proves Pathaan And Jawan Were Solid Cinema,

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan struggled to match the success of Pathaan and Jawan, facing challenges with its storytelling, despite its star-studded cast and action-packed sequences. Shah Rukh Khan's films of 2023, Pathaan and Jawan, proved to be formidable competitors with their compelling narratives and memorable performances.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan hit theatres with a promise of action-packed entertainment starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. With festival release timing and a blend of action and drama, anticipation ran high among moviegoers. However, as the film’s opening weekend came to a close, its box office performance told a different tale.

Opening to Rs 16 crore on its first day, the film initially seemed to be on the right track. The chemistry between the lead actors and the high-octane action sequences added to the excitement. Despite mixed reviews from critics and audiences, the initial box office numbers appeared okayish

Yet, as the days progressed, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan struggled to maintain momentum. By the end of its extended first weekend, it fell short of crossing the Rs 50 crore mark in India. Monday witnessed a significant drop in collections. Compared to this latest release, Shah Rukh Khan’s previous releases Pathaan and Jawan did much better.

After success of numerous action films in 2023, makers start jumping to this genre and thought of it as sure shot formula to success. But now truth is out in open – even in action, quality matters. One can not fool public with sub standard product.

Comparison With Past Hits Pathaan And Jawan

Comparisons were drawn with past hits like Pathaan and Jawan. Both films enjoyed strong openings with Pathaan raking in Rs 57 crore and Jawan an impressive Rs 75 crore. In contrast, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan failed to make a mark, collecting a mere Rs 16 crore on its opening day, despite corporate bookings.

The Hype Factor

One notable difference was the hype surrounding Pathaan and Jawan, which was genuine and organic, unlike the overhyped marketing tactics seen with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Despite efforts, including a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” offer, the film struggled to draw audiences to theatres.

Reasons for failure:

Poor script

Sub standard music

Cliche action

Done to death marketing

Analysis of Other Aspects

Examining other aspects, such as performances and music, Pathaan and Jawan stood out. While Bade Miyan Chote Miyan boasted impressive action sequences, it faltered in storytelling compared to the cohesive narratives of its competitors. Shah Rukh Khan’s performances in both Pathaan and Jawan were particularly praised, along with their emotionally resonant themes and memorable music like “Jhoome Jo Pathaan”, “Not Ramaiya Vastaviaya”, Zinda Banda” and “Chaleya”. They were not only the best in action but also the direction, performances, music and much more.

In conclusion, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan faced tough competition from well-received films like Pathaan and Jawan. Despite its star power and action-packed sequences, its lack of solid storytelling and pacing issues hindered its success at the box office. Shah Rukh Khan’s offerings of 2023 proved to be special and unmatched by the underwhelming performance of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s film.
