The much-awaited Prime Video series, Gulkanda Tales, directed by Tumbbad filmmaker Rahi Anil Barve, has reportedly hit a major roadblock. Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Kunal Kemmu, and Patralekhaa in lead roles, the show’s future now hangs in the balance due to post-production issues.
Prime Video Expected To Cancel Gulkanda Tales Due To Shocking Issues
According to a report by Hollywood Reporter India, the series, announced in 2022, has been in post-production for nearly a year. Despite multiple editing attempts, stakeholders are still unhappy with the final product. Sources reveal that there are ongoing debates within Prime Video about whether to cancel the project altogether.
“The makers tried to edit it multiple times, but the shape wasn’t there,” said an insider. The story felt disjointed, with episodes jumping around in a way that didn’t flow smoothly.
To address these issues, the production team would need extensive re-shoots. However, logistical hurdles such as coordinating actor schedules, rebuilding sets, and securing additional funds make this an almost impossible task.
Makers Exploring The Possibilities Of Minimising Reshoots
To save the show, the makers are reportedly exploring ways to minimise re-shoots. One possible solution involves removing an entire subplot to streamline the narrative.
“It’s a logistical problem at this stage as the re-shoots require much more money, and they won’t be getting that additional budget now from Prime Video. It’s a tough process to get everything back together. So it remains to be seen if they do it in a cost-effective manner,” said the source.
About Gulkanda Tales & Its Controversy
Gulkanda Tales is described as a period sex comedy set in a fictional kingdom. Its themes, which mix satire with commentary on feminism and misogyny, have reportedly sparked concerns about potential backlash.
However, a source clarified that the show is intended to be a humorous take on societal issues and not overly provocative.
