Varun Dhawan is stepping into new territory with his OTT debut in Citadel: Honey Bunny. The actor is taking on a fresh challenge in this action-packed series, directed by The Family Man duo Raj & DK.
Released on Amazon Prime Video on November 7, the show has already created a lot of buzz, not only because of its exciting story but also due to the bold career choices Dhawan is making.

In the first episode of Citadel: Honey Bunny, Dhawan takes his usual image to new heights. In a brief yet daring scene, he appears nude, revealing his bare backside as he gets out of bed after a passionate moment.
The scene is quick and shot in dim lighting, but it’s still a surprising move for Dhawan, who has mostly kept his roles family-friendly. This is a bold shift for him, having previously teased edgy scenes in Bhediya and Stree 2, but never going as far as he does in Citadel: Honey Bunny.
But the scene isn’t just about nudity. Dhawan also shares a sensuous kiss with co-star Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the same episode. This adds to the sizzling chemistry between their characters. It further marks another shift from his previous roles, where romance was often more restrained.

Dhawan’s decision to go all out follows a trend of Bollywood actors who have recently pushed boundaries. Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Rajkummar Rao have all taken similar steps in their films, showing more vulnerable or daring sides. Now, Dhawan joins them with a move that is sure to get people talking.

At the trailer launch of Citadel: Honey Bunny, Dhawan spoke about the 90s setting of the show.
He said, “Our series starts way before the first Citadel begins. We are set in the 90s. This is almost the way everything began and will determine how the future instalments will play out. We are starting afresh and did not have any references to look up to because we are in the 90s. So, we don’t even have all the crazy gadgets that are available today. And, we had to rely a lot on the things that were built in the 90s.”

Along with Dhawan, Citadel: Honey Bunny stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead role, with a talented supporting cast including Sikandar Kher, Kay Kay Menon, and Simran.
The show also introduces Priyanka Chopra’s character in Citadel, where she plays the adult version of Nadia, the daughter of Honey and Bunny. As the story develops, Nadia follows in her parents’ footsteps and becomes a spy.
