Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is one of the most anticipated films, but its road to theatres has been rocky. Initially set for a release on September 6, 2024, the film faced a significant delay when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) revoked its certification after several petitions. After months of waiting, the film is now scheduled for release on January 17, 2025. However, Kangana has expressed some doubts about her choice of a theatrical release.
Kangana Ranaut Felt ‘Scared’ When CBFC Delayed The Release
During a chat with News18, Kangana shared how her initial excitement turned into worry. She admitted to feeling “scared” when the CBFC delayed the release.
Reflecting on the situation, she now believes choosing theatres was a mistake. “I felt that it was a wrong decision to release it in theatres. I thought I could have gotten a better deal on OTT. I also wouldn’t have had to go through censorship then and my film wouldn’t have been dissected,” she explained.
She also mentioned that she wasn’t sure what the CBFC would allow or remove from the film.
Actress On Directing Emergency
Kangana also opened up about her experience directing Emergency, revealing that it made her rethink her career choices. She confessed that she had taken on the directorial role too lightly.
She compared the risks she took with those faced by the makers of the film Kissa Kursi Ka, whose prints were destroyed and never seen again. “I underestimated things and thought that I would be able to get away by making a film on Emergency,” she admitted.
About Kangana Ranaut Starrer Emergency
Emergency is based on a crucial period in India’s political history, with Kangana portraying Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film features a strong cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Ashok Chhabra, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. Despite her concerns, Kangana believes the film will effectively capture Indira Gandhi’s journey.
After its theatrical release, Emergency will be available for streaming on Netflix, with subscribers able to watch it without extra charges. However, the exact date for its OTT release is still unknown.
