‘It Is Very Organic To Me’: Shah Rukh Khan Took A Break After Zero As He Didn’t Feel Like Acting; Reveals Siddharth Anand Denied Making Pathaan Without Him

Shah Rukh Khan revealed that his break after Zero wasn’t due to the film’s failure but because he simply didn’t feel like acting.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is known for his iconic roles and box-office hits. He recently opened up about his unexpected break from the big screen following the 2018 film Zero.

Speaking with Variety, King Khan shed light on why he took time off and the intriguing story behind his comeback.

Here’s Why Shah Rukh Khan Took A Break After Zero

Khan explained that his hiatus wasn’t due to the film’s performance but rather a personal decision. “It wasn’t the failure of the films, to be honest,” he said.

For SRK, acting is an organic process. If he doesn’t feel motivated, he prefers not to work. This approach led him to a year-long break after Zero, during which he made a few special appearances but did not lead any major films.

SRK also remembered a memorable moment when he decided to inform a producer of his plan to take a year off. “It was very unprofessional of me,” Khan admitted. He further explained that he made the call in December for a film he was supposed to work on starting in January. The producer was taken aback, as Khan was known for his relentless work ethic. SRK told him that if the producer didn’t like the movie, he could always say no.

After a year and a half, the producer reached out to SRK, expressing surprise that he had indeed taken a break. Khan confirmed, “I just didn’t want to work. I just didn’t want to act,” highlighting that his decision was based on his need for authenticity in his work.

Siddharth Anand Said He Won’t Make Pathaan Without SRK

During the same interview, Khan discussed his return to the spotlight with the action thriller Pathaan. He revealed that director Siddharth Anand had long held the idea for the film, keeping the title on hold for 15-20 years. Anand had previously told Khan that if he ever made Pathaan, he would only do it with him. This set the stage for a swift signing process, which Khan described as taking only 15 minutes.

Khan also talked about Jawan, another 2023 release, noting that it ventured into a genre of South Indian cinema he hadn’t explored before. Despite the public seeing his comeback as a reinvention, Khan insisted it was not a pre-planned strategy but rather a natural progression.

After the success of Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to work on his next big-budget actioner, King. Sujoy Ghosh is directing the film. It also stars Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma.
