Director Amar Kaushik, famous for films like Stree, Stree 2, and Bhediya, is all set to surprise audiences with his new film, Mahavatar. Moving away from his usual horror-comedy style,
Kaushik explores mythology in this project. The film stars Vicky Kaushal as Lord Parashurama, the legendary warrior. Produced by Maddock Films, Mahavatar is scheduled for a Christmas 2026 release.
Amar Kaushik On Inspiration Behind Mahavatar
In a recent conversation with ETimes, Kaushik opened up about the inspiration behind Mahavatar.
He shared, “I’ve always wanted to explore different genres, and mythology is something that has fascinated me since childhood. My mother used to tell me mythological stories, and I would imagine how those events might have unfolded. Now that I’m in the film industry, and fortunately, some of my films have been successful, I have the support of my producers. I’ve learned a lot about VFX and storytelling, and this project feels like both a responsibility and a challenge. I think I work best when faced with a challenge.”
Kaushik’s choice of mythology stems from his desire to explore new genres. While Bhediya 2 and Stree 3 are in development, the director wanted to step away from familiar territory before returning to these sequels.
“The writers are actively working on Bhediya 2 and Stree 3, but Before returning to those projects, I wanted to try something different, and that’s how Mahavatar came about,” he added.
Pre-Production Begins In Early 2025
The first look of Vicky Kaushal as Lord Parashurama was revealed recently, and it left fans stunned. With long hair and a fierce gaze, Kaushal’s transformation is striking. The poster also features a Trishul, symbolising the warrior’s power and connection to dharma.
Pre-production for Mahavatar is set to begin early next year, with extensive VFX work and meticulous planning. The project is being hailed as one of the most ambitious undertakings for both Maddock Films and Vicky Kaushal. It will require six to eight months of preparation before filming officially starts.
