The iconic 2012 romantic comedy Cocktail is getting a sequel, and this time, Shahid Kapoor will take the lead. The film, which originally starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty, is being produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
Though Kapoor has not signed the official contract yet, sources confirmed that he has verbally agreed to join the project, marking his second collaboration with Vijan after this year’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.
Homi Adajania To Direct Shahid Kapoor Starrer Cocktail 2
Homi Adajania, who directed the first film, will return to direct the sequel, set to begin production in mid-2025.
Sources close to the development told Peeping Moon, “Dinesh Vijan and Homi Adajania have been toying with the idea of a ‘Cocktail’ sequel for years, and they’ve now crafted a storyline that they believe matches the magic of the first film.”
The source added, “Although ‘Cocktail 2’ features a completely new narrative, its tone and vibrant setting reminisce about the original, thus being labelled a sequel. Shahid loved the story and is already on board, while discussions with several leading young actresses are in progress.”
While Cocktail 2 will have an entirely new plot, it promises to retain the same energy and vibe that made the first movie so popular. Much like its predecessor, the sequel is expected to explore the complexities of love and friendship, set in an urban environment.
In the original film, Saif Ali Khan’s flirtatious character, Deepika Padukone’s wild personality, and Diana Penty’s shy, traditional role created a dynamic love triangle that captured hearts. The 2012 film also featured Randeep Hooda, Dimple Kapadia, and Boman Irani in key roles, helping it become a box-office hit.
Sequel To Be Deepika-Saif’s 2nd Film Getting A Reboot
This sequel will also be the second time a Saif Ali Khan-Deepika Padukone film is getting a reboot. Four years ago, Dinesh Vijan attempted a Love Aaj Kal 2.0 version with Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, but the film failed to impress.
With Cocktail 2, Vijan is determined to create an entertaining, fresh love story that resonates with today’s audience. Though the script is entirely new, it promises to capture the essence of the first movie while exploring modern-day relationships.
Shahid Kapoor To Begin Shooting After Wrapping Up Vishal Bhardwaj’s Film
Shahid Kapoor is expected to begin shooting for Cocktail 2 after completing his role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s action thriller, which kicks off production in December.
In this film, Kapoor will portray a gangster inspired by Hussain Ustara, the notorious don who had a fierce rivalry with Dawood Ibrahim. The film also stars Animal actress Triptii Dimri as the female lead.
Shahid Kapoor’s busy 2025 schedule also includes the release of Deva, a cop thriller directed by Rosshan Andrrews. It is set to hit cinemas on Valentine’s Day.
