Sohum Shah has confirmed the highly anticipated sequel Tumbbad 2 is officially on the way. The announcement came following the re-release of the original film, Tumbbad, in theatres.
The actor had hinted earlier that the script was in progress but did not specify a timeline. Now, it seems the script is finalised and preparations for the shoot are underway.
Tumbbad 2 Confirmed By Sohum Shah & The Makers
The re-release of Tumbbad has been a massive success. Not only has it rekindled the magic of this fantasy folklore classic, but it has also smashed its previous box office records.
On its opening day, Tumbbad outperformed iconic films such as Sholay, Mughal-e-Azam, and Rockstar in terms of box office collections, making history in Indian cinema.
The buzz around Tumbbad 2 was further fueled by a gripping teaser shown at the end of the re-released film.

Sohum Shah also confirmed the sequel with a teaser on his official Instagram handle. It begins with Vinayak and his son Pandurang, and features a haunting voiceover by Sohum Shah: “Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega… darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega.”
As the teaser concludes, it ominously announces, “Pralay, Pralay phir aayega,” hinting at the epic scope of the upcoming sequel.

Here’s What Sohun Shah Recently Said
Shah had previously shared with ETimes his desire to develop Tumbbad into a full-fledged franchise, with plans for Tumbbad 2 and even Tumbbad 3.
He emphasised that the scripts need to be exceptional to justify turning the film into a franchise. It appears that his vision is moving forward, with the script for the sequel now ready and production set to commence soon.
The re-release has proved to be a game-changer, earning Rs. 1.50 crores on its first day alone—three times more than it made during its initial run in 2018. This impressive performance has allowed Tumbbad to nearly recoup its production budget of Rs. 15 crores in just one day.
Despite the ongoing competition from Kareena Kapoor Khan’s The Buckingham Murders, which earned Rs. 1.15 crores on its opening day, Tumbbad looks set to remain a hero at the box office this week.
