Christopher Nolan is easily one of the most celebrated and revered directors on this planet. His impressive body of work is a testament that he knows how to tell a story without conforming to Hollywood norms. In his over two-decade career, Nolan has successfully bridged the gap between arthouse and mainstream sensibilities.
Fans have been gearing up for his upcoming biographical drama film Oppenheimer, which is based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was an American physicist leading the Manhattan Project that created the first atomic bomb.
The film is taken from the 2005 book American Prometheus by Karl Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Recently, Karl opened up about Nolan’s film. “I am, at the moment, stunned and emotionally recovering from having seen it,” he said. “I think it is going to be a stunning artistic achievement, and I have hopes it will actually stimulate a national, even global conversation about the issues that Oppenheimer was desperate to speak out about how to live in the atomic age, how to live with the bomb and about McCarthyism, what it means to be a patriot, and what is the role for a scientist in a society drenched with technology and science, to speak out about public issues.”
About Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy as the titular physicist, while Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh appear in pivotal roles. It is the first Nolan film since Memento that is not going to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures due to their fallout over WB’s hybrid release model rolled out in 2020. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on July 21.
